My Life in PlayScript

Characters

Beth Huber…a woman in her early-<deleted for vanity>; a playwright pretending to be an actor pretending to be a professor pretending to be somebody.

The World…an absurdist wannabe ComiCon with delusions of being “a stage.”

Time: Is a construct

Place: Is an odd cultural agreement that I can’t, for the life of me, understand why we follow.

The World: Why did you come here?

Beth Huber: I think I was summoned, but I don’t really remember.

The World: So, who do you think summoned you?

Beth Huber: So, I’m guessing either Thalia, the Greek muse of comedic writing within the natural world or Samuel Beckett, the God of absurdism within the unnatural world.

The World: Monsieur Beckett is not a God.

Beth Huber: Lol. <pause> Oh, wait! You’re serious!

(They stare at each other. They do not move)

The World: Do you plan to remake me with your crazy visions of how things *should* be?

Beth Huber: Yes. Do you plan to invalidate me with your…you know… ‘Best of all possible worlds’ thing?

The World: Yes.

Beth Huber: Then let’s get this show on the road. Places. Five Minutes.

The World: Thank you five.
